Events
Spring break has finally kicked off! All the students are now enjoying their two weeks of freedom without any classes. With the seniors graduating this year the school has decided to host their annual Masquerade ball for everyone in town. Yes, even people from the neighboring town are invited to the ball. With the student council and the staff working overtime the ball is finally ready! Yet something is different about this year's event. It may be because the senior members of student council decided to go out with a bang,
Nova had been finding it hard to sleep lately. Even though it had been years since the accident she still dreamed about the night her parents had died. The accident had given her a strong fear of fire, which was understandable considering what had happened to her. It was nice being somewhere where she wasn't forever reminded about the accident that had taken the lives of her parents and left her disfigured.
Of course it wasn't like she could hide the fact she had been in a fire at some point in her life. But she wasn't the type to go about talking about her past. From past experiences she knew people would either taunt her or pity her. She really didn't care for either of those. Because if someone pitied her then that meant they were only being nice to her because they felt sorry for her. That's the way she felt anyway.
Since she had nothing better to do she decided to go for a walk. She could always do a bit of art, but she would need more art supplies before that could happen. Any money she was able to get went towards art supplies. She didn't really care about anything else, because it wasn't like she couldn't find some sort of food if she looked hard enough. But art was definitely something she couldn't do without for a long time.
While lost in thought she just kind of aimlessly wondered around. She came out of her thoughts when the sound of her footsteps had changed. Blinking she realized she had made her way to the pier. She had always seen the pier from a distance but had never actually been to the pier. She had never really had any reason to visit the pier before. However now that she was here she might as well enjoy how nice everything looked.

YOU WANNA HAVE A GO AT IT?
It was late, and Fira was out and about as usual. She always went back to the youth shelter early in the morning, always spending her nights out and about. It was a lonely night like usual—with hardly anyone wandering about. If anything, she hoped she'd run into a brawler eventually. She could use a little exercise right about now. But knowing her luck of late, that wasn't likely. Not even slightly. Knowing that, she let a deep sigh clear out of her throat. What a bore, she thought to herself while she eyed the pavement below her. She kept on walking, still looking at the ground.
After a while, she could hear sounds off in the distance that could only come from a large body of water. She lifted her head to observe the water from afar. She always liked water, it had a calm, peaceful vibe to it that she genuinely enjoyed. She knew there was a pier around here somewhere. She went there occasionally, but only when she needed to clear her head. She sighed again. It was going to be one of those nights. Might as well go out and clear her head again. Honestly, she needed it. She's been pretty damn stressed lately, so it'd definitely be good for her. Without further ado, she tried to recall where the pier was. A few minutes later, she put on a grin, having remembered where the pier was. She made way for it, walking steadily towards the area.
As she reached the pier, she noticed someone else on it as well. She raised an eyebrow. She wasn't sure if she should be delighted or disappointed. Either way, she was definitely curious. It was a girl with long black hair. She couldn't see her face, as she was facing the opposite direction. Fira decided to quietly sneak up behind her, if only to give her a surprise. And she did so. When she was close enough, she decided to speak to the girl.
"Hey, what's a scrawny little lass like yourself doing out here at this time of night?" She asked, moving back some just in case she tried to start swinging her fists around. "It's dangerous at this time of night, don't cha know?" She spoke in a teasingly deepened voice. "You might just run into a brawler." She continued. She had a grin forming over her mouth. She'd be fun to mess with to say the least. She wasn't entirely too sure if she should let the taller girl in on the fact she herself was a brawler. She didn't seem like the fighting type, and picking a fight with someone who wouldn't fight back was just no fun. But for all she knew, the girl could've already known about her status as a street urchin. Either way, judging from the girl's body type, she definitely wasn't the strongest. Fira could easily fight her way out of this if it came down to it. With a smug look on her face, she placed her hand on her hip, awaiting a response from her.
Nova was so busy staring out over the water that she hadn't realized how late it was getting. The only sign that it had gotten pretty late was the fact it was getting harder to see. Luckily there were enough streetlights nearby that she wasn't having to use the moonlight to see. She supposed she should be heading to where she would be sleeping for the night, but she wasn't quite ready to go just yet. For one thing she didn't think she could go to sleep just yet.
She was so busy looking at the scenery before her that she stopped paying attention to anything else that might be happening around her, so she didn't notice when someone snuck up behind her. She jumped in surprise when she heard a voice from behind her before spinning around to face the other woman. She had to admit the other woman seemed really pretty and before long she started feeling self conscious because of her scars. Her eyes immediately lowered so that it looked like she was looking at the ground, and she finally spoke.
"S-Sorry, I wasn't a-aware anyone el-else was out he-here" she stammered out, nervously fiddling with her fingers. "It's ni-nice of you to wo-worry about me, b-but you shouldn't wa-waste your time I-I'm not so-worth it." she said, her eyes still downcast. The girl before her wasn't someone she had ever seen before. Not that she actually knew this; since, she always kept her eyes glued to the ground.
"Any-Anyway my name i-is No-Nova." she didn't ask the other girl what her name was, mainly because she didn't want her to feel like she was obligated to say her name. If she still gave her name than that was her decision. She didn't realize that this girl might be having a field day with her. Though it was true she wasn't the one to blindly trust others, she found it hard to believe the worst in people.

YOU WANNA HAVE A GO AT IT?
Fira stared blankly at Nova. She didn't even realize she was messing with her. How dull. It was no fun to tease someone when they didn’t even realize they were being teased. She sighed, looking at the ground before making direct eye contact with Nova. Her luck was at it again. It’s been like that lately. Oh well. Might as well enjoy the interaction while she could, even if it wasn’t going the way she wanted. But the way she acted was kind of sad, it pissed her off.
“Fira. Call me that.” Her voice went dull and monotone for a moment before she continued. “And for the record, I wasn't worrying about you, I was messing with you. I am a brawler myself.” She nearly growled. She definitely needed some more confidence. Perhaps she could help with that? Whenever someone had low self-esteem it always pissed her off. But she always felt she had to fix it as well. She viewed life as a lot like an untamable wild bronco. The only real way to enjoy it, at least in her opinion, was to just jump on, grab it by the mane and make it go the way you want it to go. And if you fell off, just get back up and continue attempting to tame the untamable. Sure it’d be a damn bumpy ride, but that’s just how life is. Learn to deal with it, or fall off crying. Now, this girl seemed passive. Far too passive. That isn’t exactly a good thing, that’s how you get stepped on. And she came off as the type to not even complain about it.
“But you don't have to worry about gettin’ into a fight anytime soon. You don’t exactly look like a challenge, so I wouldn't say you're worth the effort.” Her voice trailed off, and she placed her finger on her upper lip. How should she deal with her? She just said the next thing that came to mind. “But I’m sure you got a talent for something. My guess it just ain’t fighting. Unless you're some secret bulldozer in hiding.” She teased again. The likely chance of that...just was not good. At all. Going off her initial impression of her, she seemed sensitive, introverted, dreamy and overtly kind. An artist of some sort no doubt. But she wouldn't assume it. You never know what life will give you. For all she knew, Nova could easily be something else, and this could easily be an act.
“So, what do you do for a living?” She reached into her pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, grabbing one and placing the filter end in her mouth before taking out a lighter and lighting the tobacco rod. She moved her eyes from the cigarette to Nova, before taking the cigarette out to say something. “Want one?” She asked. She was still a year under the smoking age, but most people didn’t card. Although, cigarettes were oddly harder to get than alcohol. You’d think it’d be the other way around. Either way, she enjoyed a good smoke once in a while. She, of course, knew the health risks, but they never bothered her. Not even slightly.
Nova listened to the woman introduce herself. It wasn't a name she had ever heard hefore. But than again she hadn't been around long enough to learn the customs behind names. For all she knew this woman before was also a foreigner around here. Her name definitely didn't sound like most of the names that came from the people that had been born around these parts. Of course she still hadn't talked to enough people around here.
She wasn't exactly sure how she should react when she admitted that she was a brawler herself and had just been messing with her. She had grown up with people messing with her head and her emotions, so maybe she was just a bit to use to it. Which was she couldn't bring herself to get angry, she was just disappointed. She had never been sure why people insisted on messing with her. Though it was usually done in a mean way, considering the people had been aiming to hurt her.
"Ve-Very well th-than Fira." Was all she said, not really sure what else to say. What were you suppose to say to someone that admitted to being a brawler. She definitely wouldn't be good in a fight if it came down to one. She hoped the other woman didn't decide to attack her. Of course it wasn't like she would try to defend herself if the other woman did decide to attack. She didn't like the idea of hurting anyone even if the other person did deserve it.
When the other woman spoke again she felt somewhat relieved that the other woman wasn't looking to fight her. She just want some downtime to relax. She listened to the other woman add to what she had already said and shook her head. "You're ri-right, I ha-have no skills wh-when i-it comes to fi-fighting. I'm not re-really one for vi-violence," she admitted, fiddling with her fingers. She had never been one for violence and never would be.
She was a little surprised when the woman asked her what she did for a living. "I-I'm a freelance art-artist," she commented, looking up slightly. She kind of wondered why the woman would want to know what she did for a living. It wasn't a question many people asked her. She became a little wary when the other woman pulled out a cigarette and started to smoke. She had never smoked before since she knew how hazardous it was to a person's health, but she also knew it was easy to cause a fire with a cigarette if the person wasn't being careful
She vigorously shook her head when the other woman offered her a cigarette. "N-No thanks, I do-don't smoke," she said, absently rubbing her right arm. She didn't know how anyone could smoke those things. Neither of her parents had smoked and had always told her what they would do if she ever picked up smoking. Of course she didn't have to worry about that now considering they were both dead, but smoking still wasn't a habit she was about to pick up.

YOU WANNA HAVE A GO AT IT?
Fira pulled back her hand that had the pack of cigarettes in it as soon as Nova said she didn't smoke, and placed the pack back into her front pocket. "Suit yourself then." She shrugged it off. It wasn't a big deal though. She knew a lot of people didn't smoke these days. She brought the cigarette to her mouth before taking a drag, then moving it away from her mouth so she could speak. "So a freelance artist, huh? Kinda thought you'd be into something like that. You strike me as the artsy type." She admitted. She didn't like making assumptions about people, but she did take pride in it when she was right about it. She turned her eyes towards the water in front of her, walking forward to the end of the pier.
"Beautiful, huh?" She said as she squatted down to bring herself closer to the water. Honestly, she just wanted to jump right in right now. She loved water. She loved drinking it, and she definitely loved swimming in it. But now wasn't a good time for a swim. She placed her legs off the edge. The water level was too low for her to get wet, much to her disappointment. She took another huff of her cigarette, then abruptly put it out. She placed the cigarette next to her side. She didn't want to throw in it the water, obviously. Smoking was already bad for the environment, she didn't want to make it worse by littering. She didn't like littering in general anyways. The environment was bad enough as is. Besides, she could finish smoking it later if she so desired. As she sat on the pier, she swung her legs back and forth, with one leg going forward while the other went back. She turned her head to the side, giving Nova her full attention for the moment.
"So, what brings you out here at this time of night?" She asked. She was curious what she was doing out here. You didn't often see people like her out this late at night. She turned her gaze back to the water. She absolutely loved how the moonlight and city lights would reflect on the water's surface. She always thought of it as breathtaking. She pondered how deep the water went from the edge of the pier. She knew it was deep, but that was about it.
Nova was relieved when the other woman withdrew her hand holding the secrets. She was glad the other woman didn't try and pressure her into smoking a cigarette. She had heard of people who did stuff like that. Using a form of peer pressure to get someone to do something they wouldn't normally do. Smoking had just never appealed to her. She had enough problems when it came to her appearance, she didn't need to add poor health to the list.
She listened to what Fira had to say and nodded. That wasn't the first time she had heard something like that. However she knew if it wasn't for her deceased friend she would've never had the courage to become an artist. It made her wonder what she would be doing if she had never even met the boy. Long ago she could have pictured herself doing something else, but not now.
"S-So I've heard. An old fr-friend of mi-mine told me I wo-would make a gr-great art-artist," she said, looking at the ground. She heard the other woman move away from her and looked up to see her walking to the end of the dock. She hesitated for a second before following after her. She stopped when the woman did and peered out over the water. It was still a little hard to see, but there was enough light that she could still see the beauty of the place.
"Y-Yes," was her instant response when Fira commented on the beauty of the place. She watced as the woman sat down at the edge of the dock, letting her legs dangle over the edge. Once again she hesitated before sittjng dock at the edge of the dock, making sure there was at least a foot between them. However she didn't let her legs dangle over the edge, instead her legs were next to her. She felt the woman's eyes on her, but continued to stare out over the water.
Only when the woman spoke to her once more did she tear her gaze away from the water and gaze at the woman. However she didn't meet the other woman's gaze. "I-I was orig-originally thinking over some th-things. When I no-noticed where I wa-was so busy wa-watching the sc-scenery that I lo-lost track of ti-time," she admitted looking away. "Wh-What about you? Wh-What br-brings you out here?"

YOU WANNA HAVE A GO AT IT?
Fira nodded at her words. A friend, huh? She wondered what that was like. She never really had too many friends due to her constantly moving around from Japan to England and back again. The ones she did have, she never really got close to. She decided it was just best not to have friends, to not get attached to anyone. It'd prevent herself and the other party from getting upset when she moved again. She wasn't sure why her parents just had to send her half way around the world in order to just see her for a year or two. She didn't understand why her father didn't just find a job in Japan instead of finding one in England. Maybe it was because he missed the place, seeing as he was born and raised there. Her mother had no interest in moving to England, so she stayed in Japan. It was all an unnecessary, complicated mess if you had to ask her.
When she finally decided to run off and survive on her own, she still doesn't have too many friends. Hell, she doesn't have any. Just other street brawlers she could rely on when she was in trouble. But they were in it for the fight, not for her. A friend would be in it for her. She never felt lonely at least. Not that she had much to really go on what something other than loneliness felt like. She was used to it. It raised her just as much as her parents did. She honestly didn't mind it, to be frank. Besides, to normal people, being friends with some fighter was probably more trouble than it's worth. After all, imagine all the trouble she could get them in. With other brawlers, they usually ended up forming gangs at some point, and she definitely wasn't ready for something that serious. She didn't know if she'd ever be ready for something that serious.
She leaned back a bit, a little before Nova had asked her what she was doing out here. "Oh. I'm always out this late. Less authority to worry about at night, and better fights. Besides, I got a little business to take care of in a couple of hours. Brawler business, y'know." She shrugged off the last part as if it was no big deal. Which it was, to her at least. To others, well, probably not so much. She chose this lifestyle on her own free will. Others would judge her, she knew that much. "So, Nova. What sort of art do you make?" She asked. She was curious. She wasn't sure if she should bring up the fact she plays guitar or not, seeing as that was the only artistic thing she could do. Unless you count fighting as an art. Most didn't.
